These recordings were collected on over 20 cassette tapes over the years at family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, etc…Songs were sung, poems were read, music was played and joy and laughter ensued. The healing power of music was ever present. These are cherished memories of days, and people, gone bye. I remember them well as a child, listening as we waited for the food to finish cooking or gathering after the meal was done. My grandmother Ida and her sisters Mary and Junie and their mom Gladys played from their depths. They played love and joy and frustration and anger and contentment and curiosity and gratitude and through loss and troubles and all the while family was present and everyone was welcome to listen and participate. They sure had a vibe about them when they played though! They were family and they sounded like it. It wasn’t unusual for them to play for hours and hours and not repeat a tune! I miss them all (Junie is the last still with us and still a joyful spirit!!) but they are always here with me and with us. This music represents them and who they were together as sisters and children and friends. Their love would shine and their tears would flow and their laughter could rise up like thunder as they would wind it up with each other on countless occasions. Now they are everywhere and their music still vibrates within all of us who were lucky enough to be present with them…
